This was our second attempt at this place after the first one did not work out due to a Sunday league football match going on right outside. Fast forward to April and we where back and access was gained. Really nice site with a lot to have a look at. The variation was interesting also with industrial, labs, offices, locker rooms, workshops and an awesome medical room. The decay in the med room is brilliant and was my main reason for wanting to see this place. We almost did not get to see it but, luckily we managed to find a way in to that building at the last minute. Visited with non member Paul.

That is lovely mate. A bit of everything there - some nice grime, interesting bits left behind and great natural lighting. Loved it, cheers!

What was the place for?

Production of bromine, hence the name ;)

Such a shame loads of the place was demoed before people got in, if it was as good as whats left then we missed a classic!

You're right about the decay in the medical room; it's awesome! Excellent report Ferox :)

What was the place for?

The plant extracted Bromine from sea-water using the sulphuric acid that it also produced, they then reacted the bromine with ethane to produce dibromoethane or DMB as it is more commonly know, a major component in leaded petrols. Obviously rapid decline in use of leaded petrols meant meant that the firm rapidly closed down, as DMB was the major product and the production of other bromine derivatives was far too small to sustain the company.
