Visited with @albino jay and @GK-WAX and thanks again to jay for doing the driving and I also stole your history mate because I couldn’t find any hope you don’t mind. We was passing by the mill on our way home so popped in for a look. And glad we did I like these old mills. And the demo team were already on site so don’t know how long it has left to stand. So here’s the history and pics..

Steam-powered worsted-spinning mill built around 1850 on Black Brook.

Owners and tenants of the mills have included
* James Nutton & Company [1863]
* John Horsfall & Sons Limited [1896]
* F. K. Adcock & Company [1936]
Part of the Mills are still standing though no longer used.
The mill had a 170 ft tall chimney which was struck by lightning in 1967. The chimney was reduced in height – to avoid further strikes – and was finally demolished in March/April 1992

The majority of the Mills were demolished in 2017.

Nice pictures a shame its another industry gone down. In the second last picture I'm sure that's a derelict viaduct/railway line as I think I've seen it somewhere else.

Talk about a nick of time eh!? Nice work, you got some cracking shots there!

Your lucky to have got in and seen this place by the looks of it Lavino! Such a shame its being demoed as I'm sure some of these historic buildings could be saved and redev, but it's all about minimum effort maximum profit nowadays, instant fix society we live in. Love that final shot:)

Nice report mate. Looks like there was loads to see.

Sadly not quite so simple and easy. The inventors of the 'fire proof' mill building left a huge structural problem for the redevelopers of today. Which is why in the most successful developments the architects specify that the whole of the interior - floors and all are removed and new interiors constructed within the standing exterior walls. This produces a nice, well laid out interior (for modern living) and the original exterior of the mill building still stands and graces the landscape. Took my wife's family ages to find a sympathetic developer/buyer for their old original mill building; not everybody puts profit first - even in todays 'modern' world. Although looking at the working and living conditions of those original workers; even in a more progressive business, makes me thank the instigators of the Regulations that started the improvement of workers conditions/rights.
