This small selection of shots were taken over several visits between April and July 2015, while the famous paper makers were in receivership. The mill that started life on the banks of the Leven as Rothes Mill in 1804 and acquired by R Tullis & Co in 1836, was the first paper mill to be built in Fife. Over the course of its 200+ years of production it had grown to become one of the areas largest single employers.

Trading ceased on April 27th 2015 following several years of dwindling orders, increasing production costs, consecutive losses amounting to approximately £18.5m and the insolvency of one of their most profitable clients.

While the administrators got to work going through the company's assets, so we decided it would be a fine time to have a snoop round. Visited with the three stooges.

More than a wee bit jealous that I missed the main part, you got in nice n early, as would have loved to of seen the rollers etc...caught some cool high night shots there Scattergun:)

A very nice collection of industrial photographs. I noticed that the power was still connected by looking at the computer screens. I'm glad you never pressed any button to see what it does.

Great stuff, a very historic place even though the active parts were heavily modernised. Sadly we saw the Gemini twin-wire machine when we explored Carrongrove, the Gemini brand was sold to Tullis Russell when Inveresk went down, then a few years later TR went under as well. Think they've just about finished clearing the site now, apart from Glenrothes Paper who are still using one building.

A few of your shots are very reminiscent of Guardbridge; funnily enough many of my shots from there were taken at night, too. :)

Sometimes the dead of night is the only way, as I'm sure you'll agree mate. Certainly to get around as much as we did the cover of darkness proved beneficial. The anti intrusion measures didn't seem to go up till stripping out began and the lights were being switched off, well into 2016 as I remember although pincheck may have a better recollection. All in it was an eye opener. Am I right in remembering the beater house to be one of the oldest sections? Late 1800's? I'd have to look at my notes again. I heard that the demo teams made pretty short work of the place once the machines were out. As for the Powerplant I've not seen it in about 3 and a half years but I'd imagine it's also on borrowed time.

I have fond memories of acute pigeon lung courtesy of Guardbridge boilerhouse..

Aye, at first the concern was asbestos but in reality it was pretty much undisturbed, whereas the pigeons were all over the place.

yes it was about 4 months after administration was started that the first signs of anti intrusion where going up first off on the tru-flow line followed by others, it was a steady process as they got rid of the cost of guards. There where three and one dog on site at a time except at weekends where they had more (made life interesting ) Thing is the lights never got switched off till much later in 2017. Old power plant was due to burst pipe and flooding under the raised turbine, nearest wall. As originally it was still conducting power through from the new biomass at that point. here are a few photos from me

Before the sign got stolen by someone ! Or Yoiked as its called i believe. Wonder who (these where 2 years before closure)
