I have wanted to see the power station at the Ardeer explosives factory for ages since the girlfriend showed me pics off it from her visit ages ago.so when I was up there I set off to cover as much of the site as I could.so I started here,as I walked up the slope to the station I could hear what sounded like a digger.and I could see someone sifting sand in a big loader.i did not want to miss going in here after waiting so long.so I waited till he went off to load sand and quickly ran and got to the rear of the building and quickly in before I got spotted.the power station is relatively small.but even though trashed is still lovely and photogenic and I really enjoyed it here.there are two turbines inside, one has been hoisted down to the lower floor for some reason.the turbines created enough power to feed the huge dynamite works.pipes would feed underground to different sections of the works.

Here is my earlier report of the main dynamite works with more history

The turbine rotor is in a carriage/transport frame, used to remove rotor from the turbine casing. If memory serves, it was the overall condition of the rotors that was the final nail in the ultimate closure of this place. It certainly hastened the procedure.

AFAIK, when ICI re-drew the boundary around the active part of the site before they sold Ardeer to Inabata, they decided to abandon this power station (which is Ardeer No.2) and use Ardeer No.1 instead. It was last fired in the year 2000.

Thank you all.deffo worth a look if that way.there ain't just this.so much more to see.i do wonder if the old turbine was lowered to strip it.but the station was deffo made redundant with the down sizing off the site and not needing so much land and change in development of what was done here

Yep, we reckon so … both turbines were intact on the turbine hall floor in 2009, but a few years ago they were stripped by the local copper fairies, and somebody went to the trouble of pulling out that turbine rotor and dropping it with the hoist.

Yes wolfism your right they where both in place when we visited and had heard that was the reason for all the sand and dirt blocking all the ground entrances. The site being so large it takes time to find and see everything. Mikey took us about 10 whole day visits/

you must have picked the only sunny day up here :emmersed:
