Made a quick visit here on the way to Scotland in the summer.a nice easy one.which is what I like when travelling up there.its not the greatest mill.quite vandalised, but there are quite a few nice original features remaining there.lots of new extensions have sprang up around the original building.the mill started life in the 1800s and remained a textile mill for many years.the last company a fur company vacated the building around 2005.the building has been subject to a couple of arson attacks, but still it stands.

Nice one.

There must be hundreds of similar sites in the UK. Many years ago I worked for a major clothing / luggage company and quite often particular items were sourced from small manufacturers such as this.
With the economy flipping and China now supplying a huge quantity of goods it was only a matter of time until the smaller British firms closed down - this will be one of them.
Makes me sad sad to see such places with their job losses but then again I hated working for that large company and the pitiful wages it paid!

I married into a Yorkshire mill owning family and the rot set in well before the Far East got involved. The Italians really started the West Riding slide - After the War they were, as 'losers', helped to re-equip with the latest Sultzer Looms and were soon producing vast amounts of saleable cloth. Father in Law's mill was struggling to meet small contracts on pre WW1 looms, no chance of modernising there, and they were still in situ when he sold the mill. Low wages and lack of funds for investment were endemic and yet many of father in law's longterm workers were willing to take a pay cut, to try and save 'their' mill. You don't see that loyalty in todays workplace!

Thank you all.its quite a grim place inside which is a shame.another piece of our fallen industry.I guess industry is off a different type now.retail.IT.leisure and small engineering places
