    Default Fletchers - Feb-Mar 19

In my eyes, this is one of, if not the best industrial urban exploration in England currently. Our main enjoyment in sites is decay and it is wondrous in some parts of the structure. The fact that the site went through an overnight closure only adds to the wonder as it really feels as if you are heading back in time with virtually everything left inside the property. Even though this one has been done since what, 2008(?), we still have been desperate to do it and are very content that we finally managed it.

Remains of wood pulp, the raw material for paper

    Exporting room

The 'pulp mashers,' would break the pulp down and bleach it

The newer paper rolling machine, and some other bits

    Spare rollers

The older rolling machines, in one of the more scintillating rooms we have ever been in

    Canteen

    Medical room

Machinery to put the paper into rolls

Higher ranked worker offices and board room

Sorry for the abundance of photos - it's hard to pick from a place so photogenic.

Here you can find our documentary styled video on this site. We cover the paper mill's past, present and future through cinematics and narration:

That's an amazing find. There's still a lot of machinery around. My favourite picks are the table and benches in the canteen, strip off the paint and varnish it and the trolley in the medical room, strip off the paint replace the glass shelves with veneered MDF panels and you have a tea trolley. I love to recycle.
When the going gets tough - the tough get going.

There's a lot left behind to decay into goodness. I honestly thought this place had gone long ago!
Not sure if I'd ever leave the building as there's far too much interesting stuff.
    Full of meaty goodness.

We'd been 3 times and got caught the first time, and our friends got caught on the second visit a year later. They occasionally come round the site, especially if they hear something. Apparently there are cameras according to them as well, but I don't believe so...

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
