Following on from our last trip indefatigable contacted me to see if he could come along on the next trip. so we met up on sunday and started the long walk around the perimeter of the site to where I hoped more buildings were. After a walk throug the dunes we came across some tanks in the ground that I now know are breading tanks for a worm farm. Didn't get any pics of it but maybe indefatigable has some. So we carried on walking to where the first buildings should have been.

Well they were there at least but we noticed cameras on a pole right by there.

We were there about 5 mins out of view of the cameras trying to decide if they were live or not when I noticed a jeep coming towards us on the other side of the fence. Turned out to be security:(. Seeing as we were only in the cameras view as we walked past either they were doing a patrol just as we got there or the cameras were live and they were keen. As there were other people on the dunes behind us and kids on motorbikes I am assuming that they were doing a patrol. Noticed a building close by which my plan said was a pumping station. One side was locked and had machinery running in it the other open and empty. The building was built on top of a concrete platform so there is probably something underneath, and accessed through the locked side. By the side of it was another lower platform with grates on.

But the grates had big padlocks on. Under the grates there were pipes and valves and you could just make out a walkway with a ladder on the side. But all of it was under water.
Next we headed to a big pipe that runs down to the river. Along the way there are loads of concrete sections which look like they were pipe platforms at one time, but they were all smashed up. Also loads of manholes that were locked but we found out later on that they were only a couple of feet deep with a big valve and pipe at the bottom.

Most of the pipes have been removed when the site shut down and only the stands are left of most of it.

There are a few smaller pipes still there but not sure if they are still used. They used to carry oil from BP Landarcy years ago. The area is covered with rubbish as the tide comes most of the way up to the fence on high tides. The whole BP site is covered with rabbit warrens, they have bred out of control for years when the site was live. So Gwenn the dog got her hard hat on ready for a bit of potholing down the rabbit holes.:)

After another walk:( we got to the end of the pipe. Most of the pipes had been ripped off literaly.

Also there was a box with the main pipe for the tennant canal.

Another walk and we got to the old dock for BP. Not much there now except the tying off stanchions and a wierd forest of dead tree stumps:confused:

Noticed a outflow further on but it turned out to be an overflow from a small pond in the power station. there were other pipes leading out of the pond but no idea where the went to.

Then we noticed the big outflow with steel railings on the front. Much excitment ensued only to find out that it went in about 20 meters:( But we noticed another building so we were smiling again soon. It looks like it was a generator room as there was an exhaust pipe on the back (as well as piles of stripped wire, blo**y pikies) and vents on one side. Found another sewer but it looked a bit deep for us so we gave it a miss.

Across from this huge sewer:) we saw what looked like a load of storm drains with gratings on them.

Which they were. But all welded shut:(. There were a couple of manhole covers above the grates so I am assuming that they lead to behind the gratings. But we didn't have the manhole key with us so they will have to wait for another time. There were what looked like chambers behind the gratings. Above this were more buildings which used to house electricty switching gear for the briton ferry industrial sites. There were even rabbits in the buldings, one of which run over my foot. Found a cabling tunnel but it wasn't very long and just had empty fuse boxes on the walls. The walkway inside was very rusty further in.

So after all the disappointment of not getting into the main site we headed for the area we visited last time with the train. I have posted pics before of this area so check out indefatigables post for some by him. Showed him the lighting towers and up he went like a squirrel up a tree:) You can see how high they are in this pic of him climbing it.

After climbing down he said that it was swaying all the time he was up there:sick:.
we were quite knackered by then so just one last stop to check out what I think is a tunnel but after a long climb we found that we had gone the wrong way:rolleyes: so thats another one that will have to wait for another time.
So it looks like the central site is unaccessable because of the security guys and unless I find out any different we won't be going back for a while. Next target BP Landarcy:).
