Location
Newcastle Mostly, but Glasgow every few weeks.
Odebrecht / SLP was used for making sections for oil rigs, and as such has some seriously heavy industry in there, including a few gantry cranes that can roll the length of this huge site. Plenty of stuff laying about from giant nuts and bolts to old paperwork, as well as the aforementioned cranes to climb and take pics from. combine this with the superb light in there and this really is worth an explore.

Its located right in the heart of the St Hilda's estate in Middlesbrough which is decidedly rough, so you might want to park well away from the site and wander down into it for the safety of your car.

There is a bit of climbing required at this site, so non-climbing members might want to give this one a miss.

There is also the office building off to the right of the compound. I personally gave this a miss as it was trashed to all hell and was running on limited time.

Gloves / masks are a good idea if you intend to climb any of the gantries, as most of them are covered in pigeon dirt, but other than that standard kit should suffice.

it's a superb place - I travelled down in December last year to see it. The scale of the fab sheds is breathtaking when you first sneak in. Interesting to see those gas bottles - they've appeared in the interim, I think. Anyhow, it's a very photogenic place ... hope you don't mind me tagging on a photo ...

There are bits and pieces to see in the offices across the compound, including a destroyed ceiling with the light pouring in. It's like something from the "Alien" films.

Good set of photos, BTW. :)

Its a cracking site nice set of pics i must get back have you tried the out lying office blocks yet.

Fabulous shop floor. Enjoyed seeing your pics very much, Shepy and wolfism. Excuse my ignorance, but what are those metal box thingies with the 'arms' and smiley dials on top...are they some kind of power units?
Cracking site. :)

Yeah, its probably the angle i shot that from which makes them hard to figure out what they were for, if i had shot them straight on they would have been a bit more recognisable no doubt :)

You just cant help yourself but climb in this place though, there are walkways and ladders and climbing frames all over the place, makes for some great shooting angles. Would have been quite the place to work, sitting up in one of the big gantry cranes and looking down on the place all day.

Great report Shepy, a good trip it was. We'll have to put this on the return list the next time we're down that way.

Here's my efforts with my new nifty fifty, loved the little thing!

Definitely worth a return visit...

Hiboy

Nice one mate, some good pics there, especially like the one with the chair.

You're right though, a return visit will have to be on the cards. maden_2 is coming down our way soon and this is one of the sites he wants to hit, so we'll take him along there.
