God knows
I was in the area mainly to check out an abandoned petrol station on the A38 however I decided to go take a gander at Willington Power Station's remains - the Cooling towers. The history has most likely been dealt with a dozen times already.

I'm not sure why but I felt very uncomfortable being there on my own, you never realise how big these hyperboloidal towers are unless your standing directly in front of one, for what are hollow thin walled inward curving towers you wonder how they stay up. I didn't get as many photos as I wanted due to this uneasy feeling I had. That said I really enjoyed this explore, and might plan a revisit at some point in the future.

Though I might need a working tripod, mines buggered! :(

I love that place, drove down there on my own from Merseyside a while back, was a bit creepy on your jack but most UE is, being up close to one of them mosnters is a must do at some point for everyone!

I`ve been waiting for years to hear that someone has the go-ahead to blow these suckers up !!

They are dragging thier heels over it because they think they might cause a crash on the A50 if they do it in the daytime...but will make too much noise to do it at night for the willington residents..

Personally i`d just shut the A50 down and blow the lot of ¬em in the daytime...they will look sooooooooo cool when they go !

Brill

Well done for doing these,I visited on my birthday last year and to this day has been an unforgetable experience..they are very imposing looking down at you..sadly they were all full of water at their base so it wasnt easy to look up inside. To see these come down will be also an experience.Hope someone from here will record it.

I hope they don't shut down the a50 cos i would probably have to man the closure saying that thou i may get a good view.

Cool pics thopski. I loved the place especially when just after exiting the site with ashless the police chopper started hovering over it lol

I shall certainly make an effort to go see the towers go down, going to be amazing!

Aren't they having demolition problems with the Tinsley Cooling towers in Sheffield? Not surprised considering how close they are to the Motorway viaduct!

Don`t know how accurate this is but i was told they are offering a million pound to the person who take them towers down safely in sheffield.
