I love the camera taking a self portrait picture; very creative :)

Great view I love the way you can see the rows of terraces all lined up..... (adds on the to-do list)

mattdonut; in your 1st picture is that roof actually higher than the tower or is it just the angle of the shot?

the tower is bigger than the building its just the angle of the shot:)

just a bit of history for you during the war the big shelter was the main one for this side of leicester it had a crows nest for a look out you can see that on my picture below on the main building roof. they made sights for anti aircraft guns, 30mm shell casings and complete production of gear case for the RR merlin engines as used in spitfires and hurricanes.
i also now have the plans for the air raid shelters for the factory.

That place looks awesome! I *have* to get down there soon, given the amount of fire damage in derelict places in Leicester lately. Am tied up the next few weekends though :(

I recced this a few weeks ago and my eyes were popping out when I saw the ivy covered bits of the building.

i was hoping to find blueprints for stuff like that but with no luck as yet:)

BUSM made mostly shoe making machinery which they used to ship all over the world. They also made shoe components, stiffeners, insoles and other parts that were standard components. My ex compnay supplied them with 3 fully automatic 30 ton cutting presses which were used to cut out components. They were installed in the single storey buildings towards the rear of the site near the canal. It was an amazing place in its day, had its own medical centre with doctor, nurses and even a dentist on site. I went for a job there in 1992 and my medical was carried out by their own staff in the medical centre. The works canteen would probably seat around 400 people. Its a sign of whats happened to manufacturing in this country that its all gone now I'm afraid.

Well said Red,I am the same age as you,and I am sad that we as a country are no longer able to MAKE things anymore........all we seem to do is simply produce endless meaningless stats and targets and fekking spreadsheets.......I hate to sound like a pillar of doom, but I now think this country is spent....glad we got another home to emigrate to on the Red Sea...cant wait.

Woah, that's a seriously BIG site!

And how many chimnies?!! Shot no. 4 in both sets of pics does it for me -I'd guess all those terraced houses were built for the workers? Looks like you had a good look around. Nice work chaps :)
