Some pics for the colliery fans, no underground pics, not sure where to post.
Taken at Tower a few months before closure.

Pit cats, 2 of 20, place was over run with rats as the cats were overfed by the miners!

Yes, as KA says, nice to see some pics from when it was still open :)
When did the mine close? Like the old chimney -quality original feature :)

Excellent stuff there. :) I don't know why but I love big old electric motors!

They stopped coaling last year and the shaft / drift was capped in April / May, The methane extraction plant was taken out and clearance work had started in the bath house. The headstock, winding house, fan house will be kept as a monument as a part of any future scheme.

Much of the workshop equiptment and items in the pit's store will transfer to Aberpergwm / Uninty which is where many of the miners went.

Wots went just as the shafts were being filled and had a very free run of the place I've got around 300 photos to sort through before I can even think about putting them online.

There were rumours that there will be a new gas power plant once the sealed areas have filled with methane.

Excellent Photo's fella Tower was a fantastic place to visit i went up the day after they did the last ever wind was made very welcome by the few men still on site, Couldnt get into the winding house that day because the last of the drivers had just been laid of and it was locked up tight, these remind me i must make another trip up see whats happened to the place in the last two months.

Thanks for the feedback.
I was lucky, spent an hour with the Winderman, if I had been 15 mins earlier I could have had a trip to pit bottom, timing is everything, lol.

This is fantastic. Its so good to see photos of a colliery that hasn't been destroyed. The shot of the winderman at the controls is a rare one, in fact they are all great. I love the paintwork on the headgear, I've never seen green painted headgear before. Oh and the cats are ace:)
