Eagle eyed Fezzyben spotted this place, through the trees near the station at Melton recently while him, Ashless and me were looking at possible explore sites, decided to go back for a look one morning when i was up too early with nothing much to do....
couldn't get much of an outdoor shot of the place, due to the undergrowth around it, looks to have been a workhop of some kind, close to the station, and the river Eye.
fire damage has weakened much of the floor, and the roof is mostly missing....
this arched vaulted area under the floor was interesting, not sure why it would have been built like that, the building is fairly close to the river though, so maybe it was to allow for high river levels
various railway related artefacts were dotted about in the leaves outside...
not sure what these held originally, there were a few around the place
liked this old leg vice, the leg, an extension of the fixed vice jaw, would be in contact with the ground, so this type of vice could take a lot of hammer without wrecking the workbench it was bolted to, all the force being transmitted to the ground, commonly seen in blacksmiths workshops, and forges,
almost put my foot down a hole in the ground nearby, poked the camera inside, and it looks like the underground pipework for pumping water from the nearby river to the station, back in the days of steam
in a direct line from the pipes were these, some sort of debris filters in the river.
if anyone knows any more about this place, or similar buildings and what exactly they were used for, i'd be interested to know. thanks for looking
