This lovely old building, 12 St Helen`s Street, Derby, is awaiting demolition. Progress
The nature of the old business is advertised in the three glass panels above the door and windows. Some research needed here I think

There is a conditional planning application to turn numbers 10-16 into apartments although number 16 will need to be rebuilt.

The empty site next door and the one across the road also are planned for apartments. But they've all been very quite as of late.

That`s very interesting :) I`m keeping an eye on that Gas Fitter panel though, just in case. I could find a home for that

I believe this and the site across the road are the same development by the Metropolitan Housing Trust however the contractor almost went out of business earlier this year. Chek Whyte bought the contractor and was responsible for Jury's Inn being built in Derby as well as having an interest in St Helens House - both nearby.

I was just going to mention St Helen's House - definitely worth keeping an eye on that one ;)

And yeah, that building down the road has been scaffolded but quiet for a good spell now. Got a few snaps of the stained glass myself :)

Proposal for St Helens House include building a Georgian style crescent of town houses and retention of the Pickford designed building...

Before that it was going to be a hotel but with the new build across the way there was no need for a smaller hotel. Can't understand why they stopped using it for adult education; the other facilities in the area aren't great.

Btw kyberhai - it's boarded up very tightly and fully alarmed; only a tiny part was accessible and not worth reporting on . This appears to actually be a listed building that the council don't wanted to see trashed.

From what I gathered there was the potential for a Boutique Hotel, which is a different market to that which Jury's Inn is offering - then again a Boutique Hotel has recently opened on St Mary's Gate. With Derby's current shortage of hotel rooms (three under construction, one speculated, and another two if not more for the city regeneration strategy).

Either way it could well be feasible, and would certainly be a shame to see a Grade I listed building remain abandoned like it currently is.
