The Sudbrook Mill was established in the 1960s close to Chepstow in South Wales. It produced semi-chemical fluting, which forms the corrugated layer in cardboard packaging. The Sudbrook process uses a combination of virgin fibre from hardwood with recycled cardboard. It produced a grade of paper which occupies a niche position in the market for packaging materials used in applications involving exposure to moisture e.g. fruit and vegetables.

The plant had lacked investment and when energy prices went up dramatically with the plant bein dependence on gas it was decided that the plant would be closed in march 2006.

Looks like a fascinating place – especially because all the machinery is still in place. I wonder what the Maag machine is, because the only other Maag I've seen was a monster gearcutting machine in a gear works outside Glasgow. Other pics I saw elsewhere of St Regis (Rooks') seemed to have nothing but pipework, but I like the details of the machines in your set of photos. :)

Great to see this site, rigsby. I did a night explore here along with the others on the South Wales meet, back in February. Really good to see everything we couldn't then. Especially love the last photo looking down onto the site...I remember us traversing that collect of water in the car park!
