Hi I'm Little Panda,

I am not too adventurous but I have gotten a few Explores under my belt now. I think most of them have been on here in one form or another. I am always respectful of other people's property and never do any damage or force my way in a property even if it is open but looks a bit risky.

Just in case anyone is tempted to try for Hobbit House, well covered in this site, I was unsuccessful recently in trying to get there. The place seems to be under 24 hour guard now and I went and asked for permission and the supposed owner, not sure if he was or not, was very unkind and sent me off with a flee in my ear. Not only that he followed me down the road in his car making unpleasant comments until I got back to my car and he blocked me in and gave me another lecture.

At all times I was polite and respectful but I found the whole experience completely unnerving so do beware if you plan to go there. It is not the romantic experience you might like. OK I expect he is fed up of people wanting to visit and does not want any damage but I have never had such a frightening experience before even in places that had proper guards.

Do be warned.

I went late last year after wanting to see it for ages..I went late in the evening,so photos were not great.and to be honest I was more interested in just admiring it.i have heard many tales of an angry farmer.and in all honesty meeting the owners on these small rural sites is prob a worse experience than meeting secca on big sites, secca are there just to do a job, where the land owners don't take kindly to people being on there land a lot of the time, shame you did not see it,it's magical.and welcome along.

I understand the original builder used to have poetry readings there and was quite pleasant. If I owned the place I would have a few open evenings, put on some refreshments and charge people a tenner to see it.

I suppose I will have to be content with the beautiful photos on here. I don't want to risk going back again as I am not the sort of girl to try walking through the woods as you spend your time falling down drains and walking into barbed wire. Farmers go on about people damaging their land and they abuse it worse than anyone else. Like you say for real Security Guys it is just a job to them and they have to follow health and safety rules.

Mind you there was a certain hospital in the midlands where I was warned about a Security guy that did his rounds in Ghostface mask. Just as well I didn't see him or I would have had a prolapse.

That is exactly what I would do.open it up at weekends and tidy it up and make it an attraction.then donate the money to charity, but these rich land owners don't think like that sadly.even though they own acres and acres of land.

all about planning and timing with many places, sucks you had a bad experience here, I spent about 30mins looking around and only a few mins taking photos, dont let it put you off though but obviously dont aggravate land owners :)

The farmer is a well known 'very angry man'...having said that it's just pot luck one of my friends went there with a couple of others a couple of weeks ago and had no problems.

Yeah 'Angry Farmer Syndrome' is a common experience in the country as Mikey alluded to.
I passed there in the day once and it was swarming with workers - so as Mockingbird said, a bit of planning needed :)

Thank you everyone. Sounds like I just have a bad time after never really having any problems. That whole area was strange though. Locals, out with dogs, using mobile phones, shaking their fists as you drive quietly through and that was a Sunday afternoon and I am a really quiet, inoffensive explorer who will normally go away rather than cause offense, where I am not wanted.

I sometimes thing farmers would be happier if the country was littered with burnt out buildings, wrecked machinery and dead animals. I think that we document their mess upsets them.

Its a real shame you did not see the place. I have been there 3 times and not had any trouble. People like this are the reason we don't bother to ask permission, viscious circle I suppose.

Bad Luck Little Panda, You did everything right put it down to experience but if you get in a similar situation again, call the police, harassment such as you got isn't tolerated, Stay Safe

Oh wow I just found it on Google maps/ street view with lots of photos, no wonder they get pissed round there. Seriously don't take it too hard it happens now and then
