    Default Rose & Crown Inn, South UK (ish) - June 2020

    Apologies for the brief location on this one guys, but, hopefully you'll agree, we can't let the tour bus get this one... In light of what's happened recently with vandalism and break-ins, and this new bloody Google app thingy, I just don't want to risk it. If you do know where this is, please keep it quiet, as it's absolutely beautiful inside and out.

    History;

    This place is a Grade II-listed one-time farmhouse. It became a pub in the early 1900s and remained so until a couple of years ago when it closed. In 2018 planning permission was won to knock down part of the picturesque property, turn it into a family home, and develop the 2.15 acre site to also accommodate five four-bedroom houses, but to this day, nothing has happened yet. We spoke to a couple of local residents upon arriving and they said that some relation to the owner/landlord continued to live in the property for a while after the pub closed, with or without the knowledge of the owner, we don't know. Certainly, the 4 solar lights cable-tied to the outside stairway leading to a brand new upstairs door, suggests someone was living there. Indeed, the upstairs was very habitable, and we did feel quite uneasy wandering around, almost as if the 'lodger' was going to return home at any moment...!

    And last but not least;

    All the best folks...

    Thats a nice place. I like the wooden rafters on the ceiling, the wooden door and the original fireplace. Nice informative warning notices, stating to the point.

    Yep, looks worth a mooch around. Forgive me asking the obvious question, but which Google app? Is it one of those "pay us 20 and we'll give you a database of out-of-date urbex locations scraped off the web" apps, or the Randonautica app that's doing the rounds on Facebook at the moment?

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
