I recently drove past an old RAF base housing estate in Nottinghamshire and stopped to take some photos. I was desperate to enter the site and take more photos, but it's got 24 hour security, so I didn't dare! LOL!

I think it's a shame that these houses can't be done up and sold because there is such a shortage of housing in the UK. The whole estate is being demolished to make way for a business park, which I don't think we need anymore of in Nottinghamshire!

Would this be Newton, by any chance? i noticed they'd started uprooting the trees and hedges at the main entrance near the A46 last time i passed a week ago, if it is.

No pic, but it certainly sounds like newton. If it is, its not somewhere where its difficult to get in and explore

You're not supposed to say where these places are apparently, but seeing as it's not me saying it, it's probably OK! LOL! Yes it is the place you are suggesting. I know it's easily accessible (from the main road) but I didn't want to go in because it said 24 hour security and I didn't fancy being mauled by a dog or arrested :p

Put ' RAF Newton' into the search box on here, NickyW, if you don't fancy visiting the place personally, there are a good few reports from this fantastic old RAF Base to look at on here! you may well be tempted to go see it yourself though, after seeing them! the worst that will happen is that you'll be told to leave.

yes defo Newton use to drive past it all the time in the Lorry. 5th gear used it for filming dunno if they still do? Dont be scared of security its wide open no fences anyone can just wonder in what do they expect.

I just realised you can say where the place is :p It's RAF Newton. I would have liked to have gone in, but my Mum and Dad had taken me in the car (I can't drive yet!) and they were like 'There's no way you're going in there!' Maybe next time, I'll get them to change their minds

It's Newton.

With the movement sensors on the lamposts in the housing estate (as mentioned in other posts).

Nicky don't worry about security they only drive down the main road on the officer estate then back, so as long as your in a building your fine :)

hi. I have been past this site a few times on the way to Skeggy and have always wanted to stop and take a look around. I finally managed to persuade the other half and son to come and have a look with me recently, and we only got a short distance around when we kept hearing things. It was probably the wind blowing the garages of the houses etc but we all got a bit panicky and decided to leave. :( We didn't know if there was any security, but we were more concerned about whether there were any squatters or other people hiding in any of the houses. I didn't want to leave as we had so much to see, and would love to go back there again, but with other people that don't get scared so easily.:)
