Open day at the Bolt Head Rotor Station so went along with Scotty, Spikey, Dangerous Dave, Kernow, AGK...phew think that's it.

Mind you, as well as us there were scores of people also in the bunker so excuse the bad shots. They were rushed and cramped :D

Info:

Here
Here Lastly

A bomber [Lancaster, ta Scotty] made an emergency landing here during WWII after a bombing run and ended up taking most of the AV fuel :) One of the stories from one of the members of public.

I think I remember my Grandad saying he was based here as an electrician. An electricity cable was laid through the fields from the nearby Villiage, Malborough.

The site is very well preserved. It houses 2 generators and a fantastic Air Con plant. There are also some maps and documents.

Superb work :)

Looks to be in outstanding condition for it's age.

Anyone know what the bit of kit is in pic no. 9?

Thanks for posting.

a good site a got a few pics but was too busy looking at the Mk9 outside to get any decent ones ;)

Glad you all had a good day, I know the owner and he will open it up again for a more intimate viewing a bit later on this summer, I'll keep you all informed...

Well, what a scorcher of a day! Visited with Graybags & Cyberheritage, & we spent a good 3 hours in the bunker, before heading outside to catch the flying display & check out some other buildings in the area. Here's a few pics from me...

Great pictures from all. Gutted that I couldn't make it but I had to look after 47 Cub Scouts over the weekend :)

If there is a another visit soon, please do give me a PM !

Pic 9 looks a bit like an epidiascope rather than a camera? the base looks far to heavy to me. was there a light or mirror under the hood at the back? Wayne

Dazaf and I also went there and couldnt believe the ammount of people there.
It was a bit too chaotic to take a proper look around the place.

Don't worry, I'll be posting up details of a more intimate vist later on in the summer, watch this space!

Certainly was a good day out, so good to be able to walk around without the hassle of getting into the place first! Managed to get quite a few good shots considering the amount of people that were crammed in there. I've stuck a load of pics on my fotopic page. Also while I was there I paid a visit to a WWII building just down past the village which I believe housed telecomunication cables which came up from sea.

Glad to see someone else go some good pics from here. You should have posted a few more up on here i think. We were looking at some other buildings away from the crowds & there's certainly some interesting stuff dotted around.

Thought I might as well stick them up:

I've got lots more pics from visits to various other sites which I will put up when I've got some spare time.
