This is sited overlooking Plymouth Sound on the brow of the coastal slope North of Bovisand......
Construction began in July 1782 and the battery was probably completed shortly afterwards for ten guns mounted en barbette although it is not shown on Gardner's map of 1784. In 1805 it was armed with ten small 12 & 18 pdr SB guns, and probably retained this armament until the completion of Staddon Point Battery A in 1947........

The Battery survives largely intact, consisting of a semi circular terrace cut back into the hillside. This was fronted by a masonry parapet behind which the guns were stationed on garrison carriages. The guard /store room is sited at the rear of the terrace together with a pair of magazines (originally earth covered).....

The two guns at present on the battery terreplein were apparently brought from Saltram House in the 1920's and their carriages were built by the present owner ,Mr Forster

This was an off the cuff solo visit whilst exploring Watch House Battery and Bovisand Forts
