Hi All
well the last day of the mighty tour of Dover saw the boys go to the former Napolonic fort called the Detached Bastion.
This place is amazing, it is in a group of 4 forts on top of Dover's Western hights.
From Left to right on the map are Citadel Bastion, Detached Bastion (North center Bastion) and Drop redoubt.
Citadel Bastion is now used as the immigration center and Drop reboubt at the far end is open to the public at times
but in the middle lies North center Bastion which was the main entrance to the Detached bastion.
These are pictures form the day
Enjoy.................
The Detached Bastion is surrounded by a dry moat.
First (left) the old bridge over to the Detached Bastion Ummmmm not a good option, then the way in via the dry moat.
Once inside you are in a 2 story casement, the floors are made of slabs of slate.
Steps from the ground floor.
Two corridors lead off left and right, along both of these are firing slits in the walls facing out in to dry moat.
Half way along the main corridor are the exits to the "roof" of the Detached Bastion, these are protected by draw bridges. There counter balances are still intact.
once over these there are long flights of steps leading up. The next 2 shots are from the top looking back down.
On top of the Bastion are walk in ammo magazines.
The rest of the Detached Bastion. more corridors.
Back outside again and a walk around the dry moat leads to the big draw bridge that connects the North center bastion with the Detached bastion.
Well that's about it, thanks for looking.
There are a few more pictures of the Detach bastion so please feel free to have a look. go to my FlickR page at

As this is the last post, once again thanks for the 3 day of full on madness go to Fluffy for all the planning and to Digital Noise for the heads up.
Cheers Boys.
