Merrythought was an Italian (and then later German) POW camp (camp no.76) that is situated on the A6 just north of Plumpton in Cumbria. The site is now owned by D.E.F.R.A. and is a Veterinary Investigation Centre). It is the live DEFRA site at the bottom of the Google Earth map below.
