Took a walk around Newton again today, to see what access was like, still easy as. It was also a visit to see what was happening here, Turns out that they have put in for planning permission to build an "eco" town here, build starts sometime next year, was on the news yesterday, which I missed:(
Was on the Newton for a few hours, before I was stopped by a worker and asked what I was doing, not going to bore you with the convo we had, was the standard thing, we all know, lol. Was a nice guy tho.
This will be the last time I'll see Newton this way :(, am sure when I'm home, it'll be gone/ in the process of being demolished :(

So here are the photos

i've been past this place on a few occasions but never ventured in to it:( the first lot of house's next to the A46 that have been demolished are to make way for the widening of the A46 from the nottingham turn off all the way to newark and the caravans on the site are for the workers of that are carrying out the road widening project

Brings back happy memories. RAF Newton was an interesting establishment. In addition to being an RAF Station in its own right, it had numerous lodger units, including: Air Training Corps (ie, Air Cadets) Regional Headquarters (ACRHQ), RAF Provost and Security Services, Southern Region (RAF P&SS (SR)), RAF School of Education and Training Support (SOETS), RAF Police Dog Training School (forgotten the acronym!), and the Regional Printing Centre (RPC Newton).

During 1984/86, I attended 4 x 5-day courses at Newton. On the first occasion, I stayed at a pub in Bingham (The North Pole or something like that), the second and third lodging with a guy who lived on the new (it was in the 80s) estate at the Saxondale Roundabout, and the fourth time in the Sergeants’ Mess.

Newton was a big Station, always with lots going on. By the date of my last course there in Jan 86, I used to drink like a fish. On the last night of the course, I had a few in the Mess bar, and then went for the customary trip into Nottingham with the other lads. By the time we got back to the Mess at about 0100 hrs, a party was in full swing. Most of the guests in the Mess were retired Scots SNCOs, all down for a course at ACRHQ. I remember one Warrant Officer had brought his kilt and bagpipes, and played it in the bar in the early hours. There was also an 80s pop duo with the backcombed hair and big shoulder pads. I threw up for an hour in my room about 0500 hrs, and that very morning at Newton, gave up drinking for NINE YEARS.

Memories! Thanks for sharing these pics, and to all those in below threads who have also posted pics of RAF Newton.

Thanks am glad you like it and was nice to hear your story :)
Used to work on Newton a few years back in hangers 3 & 5 I think (the 2 left of the control tower. Can never remember there numbers lol), with a guy who was also stationed at Newton, Chris Short was his name, he was a Sergeant if i remember, an his wife was a cleaner on the site to, used to tell me alot about the place when it was operational. Also bumped into a explore out side the officers mess, he said that he was stationed at Newton too.

The ecotown project has been scrapped at newton. My gf lives in shelford and there has been a massive uproar among locals who dont wish for it to be there.

http://www.shelfordandnewton.org.uk/eco-town.aspx

The workers are only there for the road widening.

Was told that they had put in for planning permission to build the eco town, that was on East Midlands Today, the other day.

It seems that the eco town changes status every week. Hopefully it wont go through. I dont see the point in demolishing all the houses to build new ones.
