Hi All
Having spent all of the first day exploring our way through Kent, Tuesday was the first day spent in Dover once again.
This site was a visit by accident, we spotted some old brick work on the way up Military road, so stopping and having a look around the woods we came across the Archcliffe Galleries.
This was part of the main Napoleonic fortification of the western heights, When the new Military road was built it cut through the south end of Archcliffe Galleries
only the gun rooms and the cells are left.
The first shot is inside Gun room 3 with the entrance to the Expense magazines in the background the passage to the right leads to Gun room 2 (right hand picture)
The next shot show the Expense magazine at the back of gun room 3 and 2
Going through yet another archway you enter Gun room 1
On leaving Gun room 1 you enter a very long passage way, the shot on the left is looking back towards the gun room and the shot on the right is the latrines which is just along
the main passage.
Looking along the main passage to the right is the entrance to the main magazine the passage way
continues for some time until it reaches the back filled end.
The next shots are inside the main magazine
Once out side again and a little further down from the brick construction are the chalk gallieries
The main thing of note is the Grafiti...........
Well thats about it, if you made it this far well done to you, there are a few more pictures on my FlickR page
