Hi all !!
Had a quick trip up to Southrop-nr Lechlade in Glostershire-last week and wondered if anyone can shed any light on a little puzzle. This is the second visit i have made to this place and i am still trying to find some gen on this place.
On the NW edge of this ex airstrip is an area known as The Farm. This is an enclosed area and consists of an old looking Farm House and some now collapsed sheds.
The Official plan of the airfield shows that this area was owned by the Air Ministry Works dept and contained workshops, tractor sheds, paint stores and offices-all contained in the now collapsed out buildings/sheds.BUT the main building -which is still just about standing- is showing as an Agricultural Plant Shed. !!! What exactly is that does anyone know ?
The Building appears to be made from stone blocks/breeze blocks and on the LH end wall is this plaque, which reads Blue Circle Crescent (around a large)WH motif.-also what looks like the remains of a date !!!
Inside are two rooms, the LH Side has a couple of small plinths (for sml machinary ?) BUT the RH side has this hole in the floor-which unfotunately is flooded and stacked full of debris !!
....also quite odd are these two I beams
Going back to the original plans,it suggests that the farm building was already on site and has no official drawing number but i find that quite strange as it seems to be custom built !!Just one final oddity to report is this (possible) Lewis portable AA gun mount. It is located 50 feet away from the Farm and is also full of crap.BUT is it just a coinsidence that ther is a discarded ladder sticking out of it ???Do you think that this could be a tunnel linking to the Farm ? and if so why ?
There also seems to be a lot of Gun positions locally to protect an agricultural store !!
What do you think.Could there be something more secretive here or am i BONKERS !!!!????
PS Thanx to Newage cos i nicked a couple of his phots !!
PPS. If you walk over to the nearby Horse Shoe Woods watch ouy for Wasps !!!
