Hi, a few pics from St Malo sea defences, and a brief history

Saint Malo: a mixture of alarm and combat troops, numbering twelve thousand and including the 77th Infantry Division, held inner and outer rings of prepared defenses. The inner perimeter was a rough semicircle about ten miles long which faced southeast and was located about two and one half miles from the center of the port.

The outer perimeter was a series of strongpoints concentrically positioned six miles beyond the inner ring. The Americans attacked in division strength on 5 August and, overcoming moderate resistance , Passing through two gaps southeast of St. Malo, the attackers reached the inner defense perimeter the following day. From 6 August until 14 August three infantry regiments moved through the defense belt , encountering heavy fire from specially constructed fortifications and well developed strongpoints in prominent buildings. While most of the city and surrounding villages had been cleared by 15 August.

Absolutely brilliant pics! :)
I thought that turret had an unexploded round embedded in it, until I realised it was just a pipe!

when I first saw the damage, I just thought, thank god I was not in that, the noise, would have been terrible, I can,t imagine the fear those soldiers felt.

Great pictures. What it brings home is that although UK anti invasion remains are fascinating, they were never put to the test, unlike Northern France.

Not sure what that is but most armour piercing rounds at the time were not of the explosive type, just solid rounds relying on kenetic energy to punch thru..

Excellant shots Katt..I saw some of this stuff way back when I saw The submarine penns at ST Nazare.
