Just back from a little scout, and thought id give this a look. Managed to get in and onto the top floor. Seems to have been recently repaired in places, possibly by the owners of the nearby land who are doing building work. The top is full of bird cr*p and not a lot else.

Quite a spooky site although much to my disappointment the ties had been removed from the 'prayer tree'.

Is the tower a doocot (dovecot) then? There are lots around Fife but those I've seen are really small in comparison.

Supposedly some good WW2 remains in Tentsmuir Forest north of Leuchars but I couldn't find them. Some really good wartime batteries on the Firth of Forth though

The tie tree reminds me a tree recnetly decorated with shoes in a wood near Goathurst Common just southwest of Sevenoaks - I'd told people about this, having seen it several times, but the one time I try to show it to soemone else they'd all gone

Nice work getting up to the top level Fra-zzr. It's a shame there was nothing but bird crap up there but you never know until you look. :)

I think the tower served as a water tower for the POW camp, but it looks as if the bottom section might have been there already.

I've not had a proper look through Tentsmuir but there are various pillboxes and tank blocks to be seen if you follow the path from the Tayport end.

Thanks for the replies, the defence of britain overly doesn't show anything in the forest by leuchars apart from a machine gun placement and anti tank blocks, would love to think there was more in there though!

Unfortunatly i think your right about the tower being for water, the pipes running through the building seem to tie in with that, was hoping it was something more sinister

I think I didn't go far enough north - really atmospheric place though, like Holkham in Norfolk, huge great forest backing onto an amazing beach

I've got some directions from the TF Ranger to a couple of WW2 features near the ice house for my next trip to Scotland - perhaps I could PM you closer the time (won't be till September) if there's more
