The Army Drill Hall in Paisley was designed by local architect TG Abercrombie, and built in 1896. Abercombie served with the TA himself as a captain in the 2nd Renfrewshire Rifle Volunteers (later the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders). The building is now abandoned, and rather trashed, but it’s still worth a visit.

The bottom fault on this board sounds painful:

And you wouldn’t want to hurt yourself on the nasty gun:

I really like this...some very interesting things to see.
What I find really interesting is that a drill hall was built in Sidmouth around the same time frame (give or take), yet the Sidmouth one looks more like a mill, whereas this one looks like a manor house/asylum!

This is really good - I dont know why but I kept thinking that Captain Mainwaring would suddenly appear in shot!!!

Cheers - it has been set on fire a few times, but it does seem to be surviving reasonably well so far. It's right in the town centre, so someone must want it...

Can't have been abandoned all that long since the pics show SA80 bumff.

Particularly amused by the fact that it's bad news to get dermatitis from a gun, but apparently fine to kill people with the sharp pointy things that come out of it. :D

I can just imagine it now: "Over the top lads, but don't forget to wash your hands afterwards." :p
