From SubBrit:

The Worsley post war anti aircraft operations room was opened in 1952 on the site of Worsley New Hall which had been pulled down after the first world war. The AAOR served the Manchester Gun Defended Area (GDA) and was of the standard two level design built into the edge of the hillside in Middle Wood, 50 yards south of the A572 Leigh Road. Unusually one entrance is on the upper level and the other on the lower level; only one other AAOR, at Frodsham in Cheshire, has this entrance layout.

Why a good thing? Surely a bad thing? Now it means more people won't get to see it!!!

Well I know others won't get to see it,unless the guys who ripped the door of last time get their act together;)

But there are some huge map boards from the early ROTOR days of the cold war, which I have been trying to get Salford council to save for ages,so now maybe they're safe from Vandals, however I don't really know because I can't get in to check them!!

Plus I wanted to take a pic of the cell used in "Cracker"....

:D

There are a few odd sorts wandering around there......

Saying that i did the Sub Brit Tour of this place, a few years back.. it wasnt trashed then, but it seems that its become a place too vandalise since then... shame...

Is it still going too become a club house for a new Golf Course, being developed by peel holdings.. they own the land !

The plans for the race course and golf course are moving very slowly, but I believe Peel are still going ahead with it all. The plans I've seen for the overall lay out had no mention of the AAOR and the building wasn't marked on the maps, sadly! The local residents are kicking up a massive fuss too, some how Peel managed to "consult" the locals and get planning permission, but everybody you speak to doesn't want the development to take place.

just a note its best if you approach from the leigh road side yes the doors are still open but as due to the recent rain there is alot of flood damage to some of the manholes and tunnely things nearby this is my local one as well
oh and about peel holdings i have seen the maps and its marked as a "bunker" but the closest thing to it that is changing is the plantation of tree by the motorway so i dont think they are touching it as the scout camp site has kicked up a fuss about the golf course but id go there soon before the work men come and seal it up again as i have word that its on the councils to do list but no doubt who every broke it the last two times will do it again.

cheers
matt
