Visited with Prickly Buzz & co.

After a morning's work, I crammed a sandwich into my gullet, tanked up my jalopy and made for the cliffs. After a little confusion as to each others whereabouts, thanks to French telecom, Prickly Buzz and his pal somehow managed to find me.

Luckily I had my cheapo bridge camera on this one, so my photos are a marked improvement from my last deep shelter explore.

We visited Langdon Hole, South Foreland and St.Margaret's deep shelters.

There were originally two deep shelters at St.Margaret's as I understand - one for the personnel of the artillery battery and one for the personnel of the Z-Rocket battery. The one featured in my report is for the latter and in case anyone is wondering what a Z-Rocket looks like, it would have been something like this:

Descending into one of the shelters:

Our first artifacts of the day - some rusted old cans:

Examining the ventilation system. Note some of the extant lining:

Playing around with lighting and basic shutter speed and aperture settings. The lining in this section appears to be 1/8" ply and tarred paper?:

My photos don't do a lot of justice for what are some fantastic pieces of living history! Big ups and thanks to Prickly Buzz and C for being such good company for the day.

Mate, awesome pictures! Thanks for uploading. Loving that second one in particular, captures the raggedness of the place so well! Considering getting one of those Xenon lights just for that purpose alone! Good old 70s Heineken can...
