I don't know much about about this one. Built in 1938 and opened in the following year. It had 3 runways and was used for fighters in WW2 used by UK, Poland, USA and Canada through the course of the war. Closed in 1945, it was reopended briefly 1959 for bomber command albeit for 4 years. In 1946 it was used for the first annual Battle of Britain commemoration ceremony.

Think you will find that it stayed open as an RAF base longer than you think because if you look
In the middle of the airfield you will find the THOR ballistic missile launch pads.
