Nestled somewhere between Essex and Hertfordshire is a little known about cold war anti aircraft battery. Unfortunately nothing much remains apart from what I can work out are the concrete control bunkers and the AA platforms themselves arranged in a sort of semi circle formation.

The land now looks to be part of a farm, although bumping into someone who looked as though he worked on the nearby farms walking his dog, we had no issues at all. The person seamed more amused at our lack of wellie boots and the distinct mass of water and mud which later did become a rather hilarious situation, in my case at least. Huge thanks to Tiny Urban Explorer to letting me borrow some dry socks after too!

As with many sites I have visited recently, I can’t seam to find any information online. Maybe I am not looking hard enough, or maybe there literally is no information but instead, here’s the pictures I did get.

...and the weirdest find on an explore, pepper anyone? Or maybe a tomato might take your fancy?

It must be bad when the random pile of veg was more interesting than the explore itself. Is such a waste of food to be honest, makes you wonder why it was dumped like that.

AA gun batteries are pretty cool, I think you did a good job capturing the place, it's tough on a kit lens or point n shoot. Would be cool to send a drone up or GoPro on baloons attached to a fishing rod for a bird's eye view.

Yeah, I use a Sony A350 DSLR and only have the kit lens that came with it, just a zoom lens and macro lens. Neither of which are ideal for urbexing really but a new wide angle or fisheye is on the list when I find a little spare cash.

Funny you mention that though, I do keep looking at the AR Drone 2.0 and moding it to fit a gopro ;)

Ah damn tried to quote the clown who just asked for the location for the LULz, but his post got deleted

But yeah, Sony Alphas are very underrated I've heard :) Pity fisheyes cost £200+, I just haven't got the money to chuck at one at the mo. You're racking up the splore count though, I enjoy looking at them, keep it up!

Must have missed that guy haha, there's always one.

Yeah I would agree they are underrated without a doubt. I have always sworn by Canon and I use a Nikon at work, but came into possession of a Sony and to be honest I can't fault it other than pricey parts for it. I keep looking at the Samyang 8mm fisheye for it, nothing fancy about it and fully manual yet still £240. The reviews and sample pictures I found look stunning though.

Cheers though :D More splores planned this coming weekend too ;)

cold war gun site just north of harlow, unfortunately chaved to hell, was not operational for very long due to the introduction of missles to counter high flying aircraft.
