The Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) Bedford Wind Tunnels were first opened in 1953 by the Duke of Edinburgh. The first tunnel to be completed was the 3ft x 3ft Supersonic Tunnel. It was driven by two 12,000hp centrifugal compressors (equivalent to 9 Megawatts) capable of a speed range between 300mph and Mach 2.0. The 3x3 tunnel was also capable of transonic which was quite unique in its early days of operation. The tunnel was operated intensively for thirty years until, surplus to requirements, it was closed in 1983.

Thanks for looking,

Awww that looks a great explore - are those round skylights or does the place still have power - very hard to tell.

Pretty cool place :D That first shot epitomises a UE location for me. What an odd place! Loving all those dials and what not!
