I know this site has been done to death, but this was my first real explore which has given me the bug to do more. Since this explore I have driven hundred's of miles, spent hours researching potential sites.. But as a newbie I thought id post here. I am open to criticism - but as this site is so local to me, it has to come first. Photos are taken on an IPhone, since this I have brought a Sony bridge camera which I'm finding very addictive.

History -

Taken from Wiki -

Fort Gilkicker is a historic Palmerston fort built at the eastern end of Stokes Bay, Gosport, Hampshire to dominate the key anchorage of Spithead. It was erected between 1863 and 1871 as a semi-circular arc with 22 casemates, to be armed with 5 12" guns, 17 10" guns and 5 9" guns. The actual installed armament rather differed from this. In 1902 the RML guns were replaced by 2 9.2" and 2 6" BL guns, and before the First World War the walls were further strengthened with substantial earthwork embankments.

I believe this site is now ready for new apartments.

I will visit again soon.

Interesting place. A couple of your pictures look like 1970's stock film. I like

Decent first report, certainly better than my first :D Well done. Not an easy place to photograph either, so well done x2 :) Sony bridge cameras are tough as old boots.

It really is trashed, in the beginning of the tunnels there was a strong stench of cannabis with empty cider cans littered everywhere. But the further in you went it was pretty much left alone. Shame really as the brick works inside are amazing.

Nice, I'm currently using a Sony bridge camera too. I'm interested in seeing what you do with it and where you explore next :)
