This was my first deep shelter, i'd seen many posts and thought it was time to venture under ground with Rubex.
Langdon Hole Deep Shelter. Originally used in World War 2 as an alternate site for Central Command Headquarters located under Dover castle. The wartime codename was "DUMPY B", an acronym for "deep underground military position yellow". Was sealed shut in 1979.

on with the photos

thanks for looking

Nicely done mate, you have captured that really well. Can't have been easy to light that place! Thanks for sharing!

Nice one!
This is probably my favourite of the Dover shelters, something different about the design being a control centre rather than just a shelter.
Not keen on the carpet of asbestos ridden plaster on the floor though!!

Your pictures came out brilliant! It was a great weekend, I can't wait for the next one :)

Regarding asbestos, I was going by what I learnt after talking to people at a Subbrit meet years ago (after Id already been to the site). Hence Ive never been back.
Maybe Ive fallen for an old scare story to keep people out
Ill be going back soon then if it seems ok.

I heard it from some of East Kent's finest Umbex goons, so cannot confirm 100% if it's asbestos free or not. I was told that it was an assumption, rather than a fact and it just snowballed from there. Either way - don't take my word or rather the word of some crowbar wielding spaccos for it - heed caution and enter at your own risk, I assume no liability :D lol I don't want the Urbex safety squad berating me :p

Lol yeah no worries mate
I generally consider any fibrous/cement board from the 40's to have some sort of asbestos content, even if its miniscule! I see it quite often in my job
Decent mask and overalls probably the way to go
