RAF SYERSTON OFFICERS MESS, NEWARK ON TRENT | JUNE 2018

HISTORY

RAF Syerston was built in 1940 as a bomber base during WWII and these buildings were constructed as an officers mess and accommodation until the A46 dual-carriageway was constructed and the buildings were separated from the RAF Base and now lie in the village of Flintham.

THE EXPLORE
Long story short. The car broke down on the way to Lincolnshire and I decided to have a look on the map of what was around us so I found RAF Syerston looked it up and found that part of it was abandoned. It wasn't long until I saw the structure I was looking for and decided to walk to it from the lay-by where the car was left. I was soon in, a very easily accessible place. Not much left inside but a very interesting building to look at nonetheless.

I remember them building the road through this place as I use the A46 a lot. I’m sure there were derelict married quarters houses near where the old road used to run as well. Thanks for pics as good to see inside this place as I’ve often wondered about it.
