Dungeness No.1 Battery was a small triangular fort that was first built in 1798, and then upgraded in 1860. It originally mounted 5 24-pdr cannons. It mounted 1 7-inch breech loading gun and 4 68-pdrs when it was rebuilt.
The only part of the fort that remains is the (very overgrown) front, with the gun mountings.

Battery No.2 is now a private residence, and Batteries No.3 and No.4 were destroyed by the tide in the 1820's.
