Default RAF Church Fenton - November 2018

    Hello military monkeys....

Me and Fluffy had a permission visit air side to Leeds east airport so since we where on the same site-ish it would of been rude not to have a look round (which was also sort of permission-ish).

So this is the domestic site.

RAF Church Fenton was opened in 1937 and during the Second World War was home to air defence aircraft, a role retained by the station until the 1960s when it became a training station.
It closed in 2013 the air side part of the site is now Leeds east airport the future of the domestic site is a little sketchy.

    Pictures..........

The amazing brick built water tower access was only possible to the plant room but all in all an amazing looking building.

    Plant room.

The next few pictures are just in any random order, so you have accommodation blocks with small pokey rooms for Cpl`s, accommodation blocks for SNCO`s a bits bigger and they have a mirror then you have the officers accommodation much bigger and the rooms have mirrors and even a sink, one thing the RAF like to do other than train a bit is eat and drink, there is also a medical center on site with its own decontamination suit.

If you don`t want to have someone cook ya grub or you just want to buy a pie and a choc ice this is the place to go - straight out of the 1970`s.

    Medical center......

Swing doors in the corridor from any good "carry on film" about hospitals only thing is when you turn round and see what is at the other end of the corridor.

Nice report that. The last photo looks to be an operation theater, if i assume correctly, looking at the size.
Don't worry about security until you've been caught.

The last photo was taken in a blast protected building, it looks like it might be another decontamination suit, as the shutters only open from the outside.

Good to see it's still doable. It is/was possible to get up the water tower, but needs a bit of scrambling to reach first floor level, after which there are steel companionway ladders inside which take you all the way up to the roof.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
