Royal Naval Headquarters - Scapa Flow

This were taken during a visit to the Ex Royal Naval Headquarters, Scapa Flow in the Orkneys.

This command centre was responsible for running the entire North Atlantic and Russian Convoys. It was also the nerve centre for the hunt for the Bismark.

























The round windows made me chuckle a bit. Must have been put there so that the sailors would feel at home.















Got to admit though. It’s not a real Scottish explore unless you’re up to your ankles in sheep poo.

Excellent pics and an gorgeous view. The more I keep seeing of your pics from Scapa Flow, the more and more I want to get up there. desperate in fact.

When's the best time to go up there when the weathers a little better, and any good prices for places to stay?

Offshore are the wrecks of the WWI German fleet, which have been explored by divers.

The Royal Oak is also under the water. Sadly that can't be explored as its now a memorial to the dead, the bodies of which are still there on the ship. Thats the main reason I want to go up there and see the bouy which is directly above the ship. Mums brother was on it when it went down, so would love to get up there and take mum to see the places her brother went to etc.

Love the 'portholes'.
Unfortunately it's way too far for me to travel, otherwise I'd definitely be up for a meet.

In the ground floor there's supposed to be a map painted on the floor which was used for ship locations and actions. Unfortunately I was already up to my ankles in sheep poo and didn't really want to do any digging.

That's what we were there for. Three weeks of diving and filming the wrecks.



Penetrating right inside the wrecks.

It certainly is a long way to go which is why we did three weeks so we could get all the wrecks in one trip. Now back in Wales and the dreaded editing.
