    Default GPSS Sawtry, October 2019

Having had my eye on GPSS Sawtry for well over a year and the opportunity arising, we made our way through a cold, wet and rainy October morning after an obligatory McDonalds breakfast.

Having negotiated our way in and removing four inches of mud from our shoes we immediately headed to the entrances to the fuel storage bunkers to find them all flooded much deeper than we cared to wade through.

Despite the flooding in the main areas of interest, itís still a great start to the days urbexing trip. In hindsight, we appeared to have missed a huge chunk of the site in our attempts to avoid setting off any alarms.

History on the place is scarce but hereís a snippet of information from Wikipedia along with some photos.

The Government Pipelines and Storage System (GPSS), is a United Kingdom pipeline system. The network at one time consisted of over 2,500 kilometres (1,600 mi) of pipeline and 46 other facilities.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
