visited this post today with goldie87,mr sam, waynezbitz1, and TwC.
old reports said that the post was locked..
its not now the padlocks have been cut off and some of the stuff from the post has been stolen inc teletalk
the post is looked after by a farmer who owns it and had it open on special days VE day etc. there is writing on the wall inside saying cleared by RIPA
anyway its a shame as the farmer is a real decent bloke.

Re: harby roc post 9th march 2008

Well, I was the first down the post so I had a look then stood at the bottom of the shaft while the others took a look. Thought I heard a car a bit close for comfort, then a head appears over the hatch and someone starts yelling at me! After a bit of questioning he decided me were genuinely interested and apologized for shouting. He then spoke to us for quite a while about the history of the post and also the WW2 observation post that had been here, recalling sitting in it with the observers as a child during the war. Turned out to be a top bloke, just a shame someone had broken into the post and stolen items from it (see graffiti left by thief in last pic) Im not sure if he has a key, so if anyone with a set of keys is passing by this way might be an idea to get hold of the farmer and secure the post.

Its good to get local knowledge of a site. So much is lost because people are not interested or it never gets recorded.

Re: harby roc post 9th march 2008

well i was last down the post didnt even notice there was a sink or bed in there before we were called out, the farmer soon realised we werent there to cause trouble and gave us in depth history of the site and how it was built and what it was used for so was good to meet him really

Flamin' theiving chavs!!! :mad::icon_evil:mad:

Looks like a great ROC -and pretty dry too. No wonder owners of such places are few and far between when you've got selfish vandals spoiling it for those genuinely interested!!! :icon_evil:mad::icon_evil

Thanks for the update anyways :)
