featherstone rof demolition to begin??

firstly, i must state that the following is unconfirmed, although it comes from a reliable source.....

i was told over the weekend that demolition is due to start here sometime in may to make way for the i54 development and associated stuff.....but get this, prior to the bulldozers moving in they are planning to do a series of controlled explosions due to fear of remaining and hidden explosives and ordnance!!!

i live not far away from here and i'm ashamed to say, have never been in....i plan to, very soon, within the next week at the most so if anybody fancies a mooch gimme a shout!

i can see the site from the motorway on my way into work so i will keep an eye open and update if i see and or hear anything..

once again i would like to reiterate that this is all unconfirmed, but if true then the clock is ticking for featherstone......tick, tock..

I can't say I've heard of this place, one to look up. Please keep us posted on any developments yamahapaul.

Hey, only just noticed this thread. I've just posted a report on this place.

There's definatly some work going on, couldn't quite tell what though as they were just putting scafolding into place. There's a hell of a lot there to explore though, so it'd take a while to get the lot down.

This makes interesting reading, I worked on this site or over 10 years so know the place like the back of my hand.

There is a long term plan to re develop the site inculding extensions to the prison and detension centre nearby, this will include demolition, recalamation etc, but I would be very, very suprised if any controlled explosions were used here.

Over a period of 2 years most of the old production buildings we cleared ready for demolition, hence most are now standing empty. This was done around 10 years ago, but there are still some clues to what the site was used for.

The work on site maybe to repair storage buidling currently in use. With out seeing the buildings concered I am not sure, but I bet this building was next to a large long one called 8F8?

If your planning a visit to site, PM me please, would be great to see the old place again.

Sadly I didn't see any signs, but the work was being done to a few of the smaller buildings just to the left of what seemed to be a large storage building - quite near to a heli-pad.

I think we've got the makings of a good day out here!

Bloody hell, I'd better get up there. I drove past last week and saw nothing going on, but since my first trip there in November last year, I've just put off a return trip to actually see all of it.

I doubt anything will happen in the near future, if you want to see what is planned for the site look here

This also explaines why nothing much has happened on site for the last decade.

Before anything does happen I would expect a report similer to this

blimey, haven't checked back on the thread i put up til now after having a recce tonight! seems there's more interest than i thought!
