Mystery Airfield Buildings.....

would be interested to know anyones thoughts on what these buildings at the former WW2 airfield at Wymeswold, Notts. are,
there were 2 identical buildings next to eachother, both had 2 rooms the same size and layout as eachother, the floors had unusual deep channeling around the edges and across the middle poss for drainage,

wonder if they were for storing shells or explosives? or if they housed generators, the walls weren't that thick, they were a long way from the 2 fuel depots so no connection with refueling i wouldn't think.
any ideas, or has anyone seen similar buildings at other airfields?

Mmm....could be a bunded bulk oil store, with the pit so if you have a leak it just fills that up rather than the whole building.

suppose the gaps could have had metal grids in them at the time, so the floor was level.

Spot on Ashless,from my own airfield days,these buildings usually housed
back up fuel tanks for standby generators and water pumps in case of mains failure.

retaining wall is called a "bund" for some reason to catch and retain oil/fuel and contaminated water to prevent it contaminating the land or water table.Concrete plinths are to give uniform support to base of tank to prevent it warping and springing a leak.
