Plymouth Fuel Depot

With the recent discussion into WW2 Fuel depots, i thought id best publish a report on this one I visited early this year....


There were two in this area, with the other recently been demolished for housing....

From what i can see these are nothing to do with PLUTO, as no record linking plymouth to the sites futher upcountry can be found.... I believe the depots in the area were to fuel the warships in devonport dockyard as it was the biggest naval docks in the country at that time....

Links also tie these sites to fueling D-Day landing craft and RAF Mountbatten....


This site is very overgrown, so i feel the brambles hide many secrets....

did you open the lid on pic 6?

what is it in that tunnel, how far does it go?

lid is solid m8, tunnel only goes a little way tho, it defo went futher, and think a railway went through it at one time.....ill get down there again soon and do a little more investigation!

Fuel Depot.

That must be the one at T********L, knew I'd see some pics sooner or later,lol.

What do you think they were HFO or petrol, tank hatch and vent flame trap look similar to C*****L?

I think there is a link from Falmouth to RAF St Mawgam.

Great pictures there. I just love the 9th pic down. What a rare day not to have rain in Plymouth, but blue skies.

The city gets the highest rainfall in the country, apparently!

Fuel

My last visit many moons ago was to the caves in the Bluff in Pic 2
We came out in the dark with our caving gear on and some kids thought we were aliens......
IIRC the tanks were huge
