This is what remains of RAF Stenigot which was part of the NATO secure communications system called Ace High. It was one of five Forward Scatter Stations (FFS) built in the UK. The system stretched across the whole of Europe. The sad remains of the Cold War.

These massive dishes weigh over 100 tons each and have just been cut off and left in the field at the top of the site. There is also an old control building which was part of the Chain Home Radar system used after WW2. The whole site was abandoned in the early 1990s after microwave and space based comms became the norm.

I went up there myself last friday. First time I had past it in its present state. I remember driving past as a kid in the early 80s when it was operational. It is a really interesting place and I will certainly pay it another visit. Nice piccies by the way.

Love seeing photos of RAF Stenigot. The dishes are just amazing and, as Lb said, it's really good to see the radar control building too. Good stuff! :)

Stenigot, Coldblow Lane and Ace High

Does anybody know what the current state of Coldblow Lane (near Maidstone Kent) is? This was the southernmost station of the Ace High network. I know the dishes are down , but are they still there, as at Stenigot? I was going to go there in a couple of days, but if anyone has any info it'd be great to hear!
