Montrose Aerodrome WW1 Hangar

Britain’s first operational military airfield was set up in Montrose by the Royal Flying Corps in 1913.
Montrose aerodrome was a pre ww1 rfc training and flying areodrome, and saw service through to the 1950s.
Site covers a very large area.
A lot is now sadly gone but most hangars are still there but are now industrial units.
The first pictures were taken by me in 1982 early U E.
They show an early wooden WW1 hanger being removed suposedly to be re-built else where, but this never happend.
Later photos were taken from a simaler position and show site now, witch is now a vosa hgv testing station, and aircraft museum in foreground.
what a change in 26 years.

My Grandfather was a Squadron Leader and trained polish pilots to fly from this base. His uniform and other stuff are on display in this museum. I was here a few months ago and these photos are fantastic Jock1966, thank you for sharing, brought a lump to my throught.

great photos man, just one teeny little thing tho'a hanger is something to put your shirt on(well apart from a horse)however an aeroplane goes in(or out[or stays])in a hangar.Sorry to be pedantic but we must keep up standards(or is that standerds)you know.
