I have been driving past these on my way to work and back for almost five years now. Finally got round to taking some photos. They are positioned quite close to the River Trent at Willington, near Derby. Could they be wartime Anti-Tank obstacles ? Painted up and used as a feature ? Maybe part of the Burton to Ashbourne 1940 invasion stop line ?

You could be right, saw some of these after a visit to Melton at the weekend, and Fezzyben remarked that they looked like anti tank obstacles.

Hello Kaputnik, that`s very interesting. I worked in Melton for two years. I think I must have been too busy to have a good look around. Cheers concretegarden

I'm afraid they arn't anti tank things I remember when they made them and put them there but they do look like them. Did you noticed the derelict aluminum works behind. Its a no go I'm afraid

Thanks fezzyben, that`s a shame, but thank you for solving a long standing mystery for me. Strange choice of ornament  Cheers concretegarden

Is that a fast road next to them? If so they may be there as road markers. Back when cars used to have really crap lights it was even harder to spot small turnings. Large lumps of white would help.

nah its actually in a 30 zone mate well just and its justa dirt track that the junction leads to
