About the site

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (or AAFES) is an agency of the United States Department of Defense. Its dual missions are to provide quality merchandise and services of necessity and convenience to authorized customers at uniformly low prices, and to generate reasonable earnings to supplement appropriated funds for the support of United States Army and Air Force Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs.

The AAFES at USAF Upper heyford was known to everyone as the " BX " it sold everything from Food and Drink to Clothing and Shoes at ridiculously cheap prices. Everyone wanted a friend in the services ( Mainly for the Cheap Budweiser ) It Opened when the Americans Moved in to Upper Heyford in the 1950's and Closed when the base shut down in 1994.

Nice one, like you say that was one of the most sought-after places in Oxfordshire back in the day! Well, that and the dollar petrol station next door, that is.
