My first visit and first post so please be gentle!

Alot has been said abut the location so I wont go on. For a newbie this was an excellent trip as there was so much to walk around and lots to photo.

Fellow new boy Bighands24 and I stolled in, took some pics (need practice in this dept) and strolled out.

Got the bug and we are planning or next big adventure.

Well I only post in threads that interest me and threads with good pics and to be fair mate you did good in my opinion I have seen some reports on this on other sites and they were gash the arty farty photo type of report that doesnt really show what the place is about. You have taken some outside shots which I have been looking for in some reports and some good ones of the interior. Yeah they aint arty farty or lit with about 7 different shades of red but they the place justice nice report dude SPOT on if you ever want to do some stuff on the IOW give us a shout thats where my self and urban mole are from and we are after coming over to the mainland to do a bit more so maybe we could hook up. just pm one of us ;)

Howdy folks

First post here so (deep breath) here goes..

Just thought I'd add to this thread for those that may be interested that Portsdown Main bears a certain similarity to Dagenham Civic Centre, which was also designed in the mid 1930's. I know that the architect of Dagenham also designed a couple of buildings in Portsmouth and Southampton, and that he did some work for the Admiralty, so there may be a connection there. I'll do some digging with Portsmouth archives and see if he designed Portsdown Main too - unless anyone's who's visited this site has noticed any foundation stone/plaque from opening ceremony etc with any details on?

Anyhoo, in the meantime, a quick google image search will give the gist of what I'm on about:

Great pics by the way - looks like a fascinating place.

nice report, love the photo of the emergency exit outside, did that lead to the ladders inside the emergency tunnel.
