I haven't been able to find much history on this place, but am still researching it. Visited with Graybags & theterrorwheel to end the day from another site nearby. The site overlooks Plymouth Sound & Cawsand Bay, & is now completely hidden from view as nature has took hold over the years.

There are a total of seven lookout type bunkers set into the ground, all of which would have had been connected via a passageway to the rear, parts of which are now so overgrown. One of the bunkers concrete roof had suffered collapse & only the iron girders were visible. There was also a couple of rooms adjoining one of the bunkers.

The position would have served nearby batteries such as Maker, Raleigh & Grenville with soldiers radioing in positions of enemy ships, enabling the guns to direct their firepower with more accuracy.

Apologies for quality of photos. If anyone can shed some more history on this site please do so!:)

In your fourth photo is that concrete sections on the floor

Sure was dude. I need to get back & get some better images really. There was a little more to be found but time was not our side that day.

Well spotted!

Going by the rather ornate airbrick and brickwork bonding, looks like early 1800's, with later additions.

Ta for sharing :)

Maker

From "The Historic Defences of Plymouth"

Quote : " built in the late 1880's , presumably to direct the guns emplaced at the new Maker Battery and perhaps Raleigh and Cawsand batteries also. ................built by 1894, and were still in use in 1903."

" One cell has however ben extended to the rear and has had an extra room added, necessitating some further terracing this occured after 1896 and probably after 1903, and may represent the conversion of one of the PF cells into a Fire Commander's cell "

So well spotted LB
And an excellent find Badoosh thanks

Cracking GB!! That extra room must be the one in the second & third images. Not far off in the years LB, you got the right century at least! Great to find out the extra info & fill in the missing pieces.:)
