Barrow Hill Roundhouse Diesel Gala,Staveley, Aug 09

Not all strictly derelict as such, although some of the loco's certainly are, but got some good pics from yesterday so thought I'd post some of them.

This is the Baby Deltic Project, they basically took a single Deltic engine and put it in a Class 37



Plenty of locos have seen better days



This 37 appears to have hit something, or something's hit it

This thing's had an exhaust fire by the looks of things

Nice report, Barrow Hill is a great site, I know a chap who was the depot manager when it was under BR hands many years ago. The 37 that had been damaged, hit a lorry full of red potatoes on one of the West Highland lines, the lorry was destroyed, but the 37 didn't come off too well either, here's the news report:

Are DRS based at Barrow Hill? Or do they just use it to store and maintain their locos?

It was busy but not packed, certainly nowhere near as full as the steam gala.

DRS are based at Kingmoor, just North of Carlisle, however Barrow Hill undertake commercial repairs as well as stuff for the preserved scene. Not sure if that 37 is destined for repair or spares though/
